Impermanence
A frozen shoreline, a fleeting canvas, and a portrait of time itself. “Impermanence” is a striking work created on the fragile ice of the Baltic Sea during a rare moment of stillness. This piece is part of my Remnants of the Past series, inspired by the fragments of ancient Greek sculptures that echo the beauty of a bygone era. Here, a female figure emerges, fractured yet serene, embodying the delicate balance between presence and transience.
The icy surface beneath the artwork had already begun to melt and shift, creating a fleeting backdrop for this portrait. What made this piece unique was its proximity to the shoreline, where shallow waters and sand mirrored the illusion of vast, Arctic depths. As I worked, a snowstorm loomed, urging me to capture the piece in its entirety before nature reclaimed it.
“Impermanence” reminds us of life’s ephemeral beauty—the way even the strongest forms eventually yield to time. It speaks to the fragility of existence and the enduring power of art to hold space for reflection.
This piece has been meticulously reproduced as a fine art print to preserve the textures, contrasts, and emotional depth of the original. It invites the viewer to embrace the fleeting and cherish the eternal.
